Uranium Ripheus Butterfly (Madagascan Sunset Moth) – About the Species
The Uranium Ripheus butterfly — actually a day-flying moth often called the Madagascan Sunset Moth — is one of the most vibrant and sought-after species in the world. Its wings shimmer with natural iridescent colors ranging from emerald green to fiery orange, created not by pigment, but by microscopic scales that bend and reflect light. Because of this, every angle shows a different glow, making each pair of earrings completely unique.
Native to Madagascar: Found nowhere else on Earth, making it a rare and treasured species.
Natural Iridescence: The bright colors aren’t paint—light interacts with the wing structure to create a metallic, rainbow effect.
Day-Flying Moth: Although often called a butterfly, it’s one of the few moths that fly during the day.
